Gay-Kimball Library

Board of Trustees Meeting

July 3, 2008 at 7:00 PM

Present: Catherine Callegari, Beth Richardson, Evan John

The minutes from the previous meeting were not read or approved.

Treasurer's Report: There is presently $6,025.00 in the library checking account, and $150.00 in the fine account. Catherine noted that the checking account balance may be closer to $5,000.00 because she has been buying books lately.

Librarian's Report: The door count for May was 1569, up from 1325 in 2007. The door count for June was 1399, up from 1149 in 2007.  There were 20 new patrons in both May and June. The computers were used 209 times in May (180 in 2007) and 255 times in June (183 in 2007).  Circulation was at 2553 in May (2087 in 2007) and 2265 in June (1904 in 2007).

Old Business: The book sale brought in just over $1000, and Catherine spent the money on a new DVD case, a wooden case for books and tapes and bean bag chairs.  She also sold some books on Amazon at an average price of $4.46/book.

All of the new windows in the building have been washed inside and out.  The old windows still need to be done. Harold Newell will hopefully paint the eaves in the fall.  The elevator has finally been inspected and certified after some upgrades were done to meet new codes. A building maintenance schedule and plan is under consideration for the future.

The summer reading program has 144 participants, up from 102 last year.

New Business: Catherine mentioned that she's planning to purchase passes to the Mariposa Museum in Peterborough for $75. It is an educational destination that is more accessible to patrons in this time of high fuel prices.  The Library has received a NEH Picturing America Grant-a free program that distributes laminated reproductions of famous paintings.  Catherine's going to hang them in the meeting room. She has reserved a table at the Arts Festival on Saturday July 26 and has ordered tins of Tree Free greeting cards (free) to be sold for $5. The library will also have the creatures down under program by wildlife encounters zoo the same day. The library is hosting an ice cream social on Saturday August 9 at 6pm and will extend library hours that day until 7pm. Beth has volunteered the use of her freezer chest for storage of the ice cream. Volunteers are needed for both the arts festival and the ice cream social. Catherine would like to examine all the old framed pictures with the Board to see what should be kept, donated to the historical society or discarded. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday August 7 at 7:00 pm.

The public meeting was closed at 7:42 pm
