Board of Trustees Meeting

August 7, 2008 at 7pm

Minutes

 

Members Present: Kathy Marrotte, Beth Richardson, Evan John; Catherine Callegari, Librarian

 

Minutes from last month's meeting were read and approved by unanimous vote

 

Treasurer's Report: $4733. Catherine noted that the balance is about 680. less because she bought some books recently.

 

Librarian's Report: Door Count: 1834 (up from 1247 last year)

                           New Patrons: 20

                           Computer Usage: 247 (up from 190 last year)

                           Circulation: 3308 (up from 2171 last year)

 

Old Business: Table at Troy Arts Festival-raised about $200. from sale of Tree Free card tins. Vendors were sparse. The supply of free card tins is drying up-Catherine is doing what she can to secure remaining supplies.

 

Kathy and Peter Marrotte did landscaping at main entrance . Peter also donated his time to deal with clogged toilets. Catherine has found someone to paint railings and touch up walls for $100.00.

 

Summer Reading Program was a great success. 170 participants, up from 102 last year. Kristen's enthusiasm helped with the spirit of the event. The zoo program was packed with about 60 participants. Wildlife Encounter ran the event, Australia was the theme. Six animals were featured.  The program cost the library $150. Grant funding of $250. (NH State Library Kids Books and Arts Program) paid for the rest. Catherine has already booked them for next year.

 

The ice cream social is scheduled for Sat. August 9 at 6pm.  The event is usually held during the week. Catherine expects light attendance as a result.

 

The Board reviewed and approved wording to be added to the employment policies that gives the librarian authority to reprimand employees. The Board also reviewed two samples of library policies pertaining to use of wireless internet on library property.  They unanimously chose option 2, which protects the library from consequences of patron abuse. Catherine will act on these two items in the near future.

 

With Catherine not present, the Board discussed raising her salary so that it is at least on par with other libraries in this region, and voted unanimously to set her salary at $35,00.00.

 

New Business:

 

The September meeting will be rescheduled for September 11.

 

The Board signed new signature documents from the bank.

 

The Board has given Catherine authority to sell pictures from the library's collection to raise money to replace windows in the old section of the building.  Evan suggested Catherine contact Ken Spector, New England Art Exchange to get a sense of what some items in the collection might be worth.  Most pictures are done by local residents.  Some old photographs of the Mill and residents could be donated to the Historical Society. Some are open edition decorative prints.  Evan agreed to reframe a certificate, a collage of library construction photos and a library drawing by Christopher Sheldon as a donation.
