October minutes
Gay-Kimball Library
Board of Trustees Meeting
October 2, 2008
Present: Evan John, Beth Richardson, Catherine Callegari
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer's Report:
Beth reported that there is $5529. in the checking account. A $3000. appropriation was recently received from the town.
Librarian's Report:
The door count was 1446, up from 1200 last year. 13 new patrons were signed up. The computers were used 221 times, down from 243 last year. 2,258 items were circulated, up from 2077 last year.
Old Business:
The fall book sale is scheduled for October 10 and 11. Catherine may need to find someone else to paint the railings and do wall touch ups. The siding was power washed and looks much better. The lock on the men's room door was fixed. A noisy toilet needs to be fixed-replace flapper valve? Catherine will see if Pete Marrotte can take care of it. A safe has been purchased for library documents, and is locked to the file cabinet with a bicycle chain. The filing cabinet is also locked. Catherine attended a budget workshop recently. She learned that residents pay approximately $40 each per year for library services. She also plans to research how to establish a capital reserve fund for the library. Evan recommended she contact the Southwest Region Planning Commission for information and assistance. The Picturing America collection of prints has arrived. They look fantastic. Catherine plans to set up a loan system for teachers at the Troy School.
New Business:
The 10 year old photocopier is on its last legs. Catherine presented information on low end and mid range Canon replacements available at Staples. The Board authorized Catherine to purchase the mid range machine for approximately $450. Funds from the library fine account can be used since a copier is an income producing machine. Only $40. will be needed from the checking account to make up the difference. The bike rack is not large enough and kids are leaning their bikes against the steps and handrail, creating a hazard. Evan suggested calling area schools to see if there is one available that is not being used. Catherine will have some options to discuss next meeting. There is a beautiful magazine rack available at the prison in Guilford.for a nominal price ($50-$100.). Catherine will try to find someone with a pickup to retrieve it.
The next meeting will be held Thursday Nov. 7 at 7pm.
