Board of Trustees Meeting

January 8, 2009 7pm

Members Present: Beth Richardson, Kathy Marrotte,  Evan John; Catherine Callegari, Librarian

Minutes from the previous meeting were read and unanimously approved.

The checking account contains $2260 carried over from 2008. The fine account contains $712.

Librarian's Report

Door Count: 1077 (up from 745 in 2008)

New Patrons: 9

Computer Usage: 166 (up from 116 in 2008)

Circulation: 2044 (up from 1678 in 2008)

Catherine shared 2007/2008 statistics:

Circulation: 23,682 (2007)                     29,721 (2008)                          26% increase

Computer:  2266 (2007)                           2425 (2008)                            7% increase 

Visitors: 13,165 (2007)                              16714 (2008)                       27% increase

New Patrons: 99 (2007)                            172 (2008)                            73% increase

Program Attendance: 637 (2007)           969 (2008)                               52% increase

Summer Reading Program:  102 (2007)   170 (2008)                    40% increase

Old Business

The Food For Fines Program described in last month's minutes will take place between January 26 - 31.

Catherine noted that the 2009 budget looks healthy overall even though it has come in a bit lower than last year.  She will monitor several  line items like seasonal labor, heating oil, electricity and building maintenance which may come in higher.

New Business

The Hot Soup Social will take place on a Saturday in March while the library is open.

Kathy discussed having a table at July 25 Old Home Days.  She mentioned that the library used to have a teepee, and offered face painting. Catherine noted that the Zoo Program is being held at the library on the same day and getting staffing for both events might be a challenge.

There were no public comments.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday February 12 at 7pm.
