May 2009 Trustee Minutes
Gay-Kimball Library
Board of Trustees Meeting
May 7, 2009
Present: Catherine Callegari, Kathy Marrotte, Beth Richardson
The board read and approved the minutes from the previous meeting.
Treasurer's Report: At present time, there is $5,437 in the Checking Account, $965 in the Fines Account, $210 in the Memorial Fund and $141 in the Building Fund.
Librarian's Report: Catherine reports that in April, the library gained 7 new patrons, the computers were used 262 times, 2,225 items circulated out of the library and the door count was 1,570.
Old Business:
1. Volunteer Policy: The volunteer policy was reviewed and approved.
2. Trustee Meeting in Concord: Catherine will attend this meeting on June 2nd. It is put on by the Department of Justice and recommended by the Trustees of the Trust Funds.
3. Maintenance: Dewy DaSilva is working on the roof and has clean the chimney. The work is mostly finished and Dewy will repair the loose and missing shingles as he finds them.
4. Outreach: Catherine has been working on the senior outreach project. She put together a rather nice display and attended the monthly senior breakfast. She states that while people were happy to chat, she didn't feel she convinced any new seniors to come to the library. She discussed putting up the display at the bank, and was granted permission.
5. Budget: We had a rather lengthy discussion regarding the situation with the town budget. We decided we will stick to our original proposal and see what happens.
New Business:
1. Book Sale: The spring book sale will be held May 22nd and 23rd. Catherine will call the gentlemen who came to our previous book sales and hauled away the unsold books.
2. New at the Library: One chick hatched this week, and Lily says that will be the only one. Within the next few weeks, Lily will bring in little chicks and have them on display for a while. The Backyard Chicken lecture was very well attended.
3. Building Security: It has come to the trustee's attention that the library has been left unlocked on at least one occasion. The offending party has been issued a written reprimand and if this behavior continues will be terminated.
4. Public Comments: There were no members of the public available for comment.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday June 4th at 7:00pm.
