Old Business:
Catherine reviewed the latest details concerning the budget freeze enacted by the Selectmen's office in response to the $87,000 reduction in state aid to the town. The library is essentially losing $3000 of the $5000 appropriation approved at Town Meeting in March. In addition, the budget for contracted services will be reduced by $500. This budget freeze will be in place indefinitely. The Board agreed that at next town meeting, the library will continue to be under the appropriations umbrella with other town departments.
The library won the summer reading program competition with the Frost Free Library. 63 people attended the victory party.
The Food for Fines program will run from Sept. 8-15, with each item donated resulting in a $1.00 reduction in fines. The book sale will run on Oct. 9-10. A book sorting party has been tentatively scheduled for Tue. Oct. 6.
Catherine will order tissues and hand sanitizers as preventive measures during flu season. Patrons will can wipe keyboards before use, and staff will wipe doorknobs.
Catherine will attend the Children's Literature Foundation conference on Sept. 18. The topic this year is Strengthening Your Library in Challenging Times. She also plans to attend the Public Library Association's annual conference in March 2010. She'll ask for scholarship assistance from the NHLTA-last year they gave $185.00.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday Oct. 1 at 7pm.
