Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes

November 12, 2009

6:00 pm

Members Present: Kathy Marrotte, Evan John; Catherine Callegari, Librarian

Minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer's Report: Checking Account: $2601.00; Fines Account: $260.00; Petty Cash Account: $458.00; Memorial Fund Account: $235.00; Building Fund Account: $141.00; Grand Total: $3695.00.

Librarian's Report: Door Count: 1575 (1495 last year); Circulation: 2404 (2200 last year); Computer Usage: 207 (181 last year); New Patrons: 10.

 Old Business:

According to Terry Knowles of the Dept. of the Attorney General it is perfectly legal to place non-taxpayer dollars in an interest bearing short term CD.  The Trust Fund account is beginning to earn interest again-as of 10/31/09 it is at $8300.00 (up from $6600 in September). The October book sale was quite successful-Catherine attributed the success to having fewer, but better quality materials, and the fact that several other library book sales were held on the same day were promoted together.  Discussion of the budget resulted in a very streamlined version keeping with reduced circumstances of the town plus the reaffirmation of the importance giving the staff a modest cost of living increase.

New Business:

Catherine introduced a bag fundraiser-sturdy plastic bags are sold for $1.00 each at the checkout desk, if they all sell it will be a profit of  $72.00.  An idea regarding a summer vegetable garden at the has been floated with produce going to Helping Hands.  Further research need to be done to determine the feasibility of the idea.  Catherine plans to visit the vendors at the Boston American Library Association midwinter conference in January for free books and good deals.

 Meeting was adjourned at 6:50pm.

The next meeting will be held at 7pm on December 3rd at the Library.
