Board of Trustees Minutes 01/10

Gay-Kimball Library

Board of Trustees Meeting

January 7, 2010

Members Present: Kathy Marrotte, Beth Richardson, Evan John; Catherine Callegari, Librarian

Treasurers Report: Checking: $2311.00; Fines: $305.00; Memorial Fund: $35.00; Petty Cash: $328.00

                                Grand Total: $2828.00

Beth noted that, on several occasions, TD Bank has accidentally charged library accounts for transactions not belonging to the library including one for $700.  It seems that the bank has charged the library when another customer's check number matched one of the library's account numbers. It takes about a month for the transaction to be straightened out and the money returned to the library. Beth makes dummy transactions in Quickbooks to record and eventually clear these. Despite these errors it is still  preferable to stay with TD Bank since it is convenient and we have a relationship with the bank manager.

 Librarian's Report: Door Count: 1274 (1077); Circulation: 1930 (2044); Computer Usage: 171 (166); New Patrons: 12.

Old Business: The budget committee public hearing is February 2 at 7pm at the Troy School. Catherine noted that in 2010 she experienced a $260.00 reduction in salary since she absorbed a portion of a health insurance cost increase. Part time employees did not experience any reduction since they are not covered. She will mention this at the public hearing.

Catherine has received a $195.00 grant from the NHLTA to attend the PLA conference in Oregon March 25-28.

The Paws to Read Program will be starting January 21. Two children have signed up for the 4 available slots (weekday/Saturday). Catherine will promote the program in the school (handout), and she expects the program to be very popular. She will post pictures and maybe video clip on the library website.

New Business: Catherine rearranged furniture in the reading room recently. The family DVD rack has been placed next to the other DVD racks so that the entire collection is more easily viewed. The computer stations are next to each other on the wall facing Rt. 12, the upholstered chairs are set up in the north corner.

Stewart Harris has been hired as the new custodian. The former custodian resigned, but will be kept on the payroll as a substitute library aide.

The Food for Fines program will run for two weeks-January 25-February 8.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday February 4 at 7pm.
