Library Board of Trustees Minutes 02/2007
Gay-Kimball Library
Board of Trustees- minutes
February 1, 2007
Old Business:
1. The computer usage for January was the highest ever in the history of computer usage at the library. 210 people logged in computer time.
2. Downloadable audio books will be available February 12. You can download them at home using your library card number and a special number that is on your check out receipt. Catherine will be able to check statistics using these numbers. As of right now audio books are not MAC compatible.
3. The Web Site has been paid for; it's listed as a contracted labor item. It will be up on the internet within the next few days. Catherine has done a lot of work to get it ready and it looks great.
4. The library now has a checking account set up for fine money. It was more efficient to have a checking account instead of a savings account. We got a nonprofit account that will earn interest and not accrue fees.
5. Computer usage: we discussed more having a 15 minute stand up laptop. When not in use it could be a second card catalogue computer or used to download audio books. We will keep our eyes open for cheap laptops.
New Business:
1. We reviewed the mission statement for the library. Catherine will update it with the new changes.
2. The trustees have a meeting with the selectmen March 5th at 6:00pm. The selectmen with to review our personnel policy.
3. Trust fund money is coming next week. The library is receiving $7,899.77. This is $1,000 less than last year. Obviously we will have to monitor spending and make some adjustments for this.
4. We discussed free passes to The Fells at Lake Sunappe. This is a botanic garden that would admit 2 adults and all their children. It cost the library $50 to get passes for every day of the week. We discussed how far away it is and how likely people would be to use it. We came to the decision that if a member makes a donation to the library, we will purchase the passes and if not we will pass for this year.
5. The library has a brand new DVD case, which is lovely. Also we got a spinner rack for downstairs from the Frost Free Library. Catherine has moved the Disney movies on VHS down to the children's room. Also, Catherine has spent a lot of time weeding through the nonfiction books and pulling old and outdated books that aren't' being checked out. One of the focuses of book spending this year will be on nonfiction books.
The next meeting will be held Thursday March 1st at 7:00pm.
