Library Board of Trustees Minutes 03/2007
Gay-Kimball Library
Board of Trustees- minutes
March 1, 2007
Old Business:
1. The computer usage for February was done from January but up from last year. Also 600 more items were checked out during the month of February than last year.
2. The trustees have a meeting scheduled for March 5th at 6:00pm with the select board to go over the personnel policy.
3. The library spent a total of $84,329 in 2006. A lot of that money went towards updating the fiction sections, as well as the children's books.
4. Catherine discussed the needs assessment with the grant people, and they recommended against applying for the grant unless we were going to do a larger study. With the amount of people who live in town it's not feasible to go ahead with the grant. Catherine went out onto the internet and discovered that the town of Rye paid apx. $1,500 to do their assessment. The library printed out and mailed the report to apx. 5,600 people. Catherine will get an estimate for how much it would cost do to a phone and mail survey in our town. There was some discussion about waiting until next year and using fund raiser monies to pay for it.
New Business:
1. We discussed the saving of the old Monadnock Home Companions and determined that there wasn't a need for this. Catherine will recycle the old ones that have been stored at the library.
2. The Boston Museum of Science will give us passes for 6 mos at the cost of $335. The Museum of Fine Arts has 70 flex passes available for $150. Passes to Squam Lake would cost apx $300 and passes to the Montshire Museum of Science would be $80 for 12 passes. The Boston Aquarium has passes available from April until June for $350. The passes only reduced the amount you have to pay to get in. For $50 we could get family passes to the Maripossa Museum in Peterborough. After much discussion on the likelihood of anyone using these passes we decided that if a patron donates money to the library we will consider using this money but if not we will skip the passes for this year.
3. The library's custodian will be leaving due to family issues. Catherine has some feelers out and the position of custodian has flexible hours available. Also Sherry will be leaving in the fall for Arizona and so we will need to have her position filled.
4. After the meeting Jan will teach Beth how to do the accounting in case something comes up while she is recovering from childbirth.
5. The theme for the summer reading program this year is "Reading Road Trip USA". We will again be collaborating with the Frost Free Library during the summer for programs. A Road Trip to the Zoo program will be held in Troy, and The Little Red Wagon will be held in Marlborough. Due to the smashing success of the ice cream social we will host one again this summer.
The next meeting will be held Thursday April 5 at 7:00pm.
