Library Board of Trustees Minutes 04/2007

Gay-Kimball Library

Board of Trustees Meeting

April 10, 2007

Meeting opened at 7:00pm

Stats: Jan reports that there is $5,926 in the libraries account. 1007 people came to the library during March, up from 920 last year. 10 new patrons joined the library, checkouts are higher than last year at this time and 6 patrons have downloaded 17 audio books.

Old Business:

1.     Karen Grey has been hired as the libraries new custodian. She comes highly qualified, and has volunteered to clean the rugs after the book sale if we rent a cleaner.

2.     We had a lengthy discussion about the needs assessment.  We got quotes for $3500 to do the full assessment and $2700 just for the mail survey. We decided that at this time, we will not pursue this any further. We will revisit this next year.

3.     Our next meeting will be on May 3rd. There is a possibility that the selectmen will be coming to discuss the Library Personnel Policy and evaluation. The selectmen have not RSVP’d that they will actually be at the meeting. We had a discussion about how Catherine is not a town employee and the Library is not a town department.

New Business:

1.     It was brought to Catherine’s attention that the air compressor pump of the sprinkler system was broken. It has since been fixed.

2.     The question came up regarding the length of Beth’s term. Beth was elected this March and therefore her term expires in 2010.

3.     The NHLA Conference will be held on May 16-18th. Catherine will be going with Sandra, and they will split the expenses. Catherine will report back at the June meeting with how this went.

4.     An anonymous patron donated money to purchase passes for museums, etc for the summer. We will research different destinations and discuss this again at a future meeting.

5.     Catherine has received a very old book of maps and will look into putting it up for auction.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday May 3rd at 7:00pm.
