05/2007 Board of Trustee Minutes

Gay-Kimball Library

Board of Trustees Meeting

May 3, 2007

Stats:

The door count for April was 960 patrons vs. 915 last year. This includes the library having to close early one day, and be closed all together another day due to bad weather. Internet use is up, 13 audio books were downloaded and TumbleBooks was used a total of 4 times. Circulation increased by app. 500 items over last year.

Old Business:

1.     There was discussion about the meeting with the selectmen (or lack thereof) and the review of the Library Director. The Trustees have already submitted their review and it's on file.

2.     The Trustees will not be meeting in the month of August for vacation.

New Business:

1.     The dead tree out front that is all covered in moss is going to be removed.

2.     We discussed some drainage and foundation issues that have risen during the spring rains. The best option is to have the area around the foundation dug out and seal the foundation. Jim Dicey will look into this.

3.     We discussed several options for an old book we have on hand; eBay vs. a book seller vs. book sale. Beckert's in Fitzwilliam has offered to either purchase it for $350 or take it to a large book sale. Catherine will talk to his wife about this.

4.     New in the library: The price of better books is going up to $2.50 per book. All other prices will stay the same. The library is looking great! Catherine has moved Young Adult, Large Print and New books. Check out the new "staff picks" feature.

5.     Eileen will be leaving us in the fall. Kathy Marrotte has been asked to take her place in the interim. We will invite her to the September 6th meeting.

6.     The A/C unit by the Director's desk is on its last leg. Catherine will ask Jim Dicey to remove it and put a fan in the window.

7.     Karen is doing a fabulous job cleaning the library, and we are lucky to have her.

8.     We discussed some "down the road" things regarding the Director's position and where Catherine sees herself in 5 years. Some things she'd like to consider for the position here in Troy and some options she'd like to peruse to "spice it up a bit."

The meeting closed at 7:50. The next meeting will be Thursday June 7, 2007.
