Audio Books

This collection consists of unabridged non-fiction and fiction on cassette and compact disc. Look for all future purchases of audio books to be on cd.

Children's Materials

The library has children's materials available in a variety of formats including books, magazines, stories and music on cassette, videos, DVD and a variety of special collections including Great Stone Face- and Ladybug Award-winning books.

Computer and Internet Use

The library has access to the Internet via its 3 public computers as well as a high-speed wireless network (WiFi).

The public computers also have Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Printing is available: 10¢ per page, black & white, 25¢ per page in color.

To connect to our wireless network, you need a laptop with an 802.11g-compatible wireless card.

Events

Ask about our storytimes. If you want to start a book group let us know! Every May and October come to our spectacular book sale. Donations are accepted year round, but please call before you drop them off. Every summer we have a summer reading program for adults and children alike. Join us in July for the kick-off bash.

Friends of the Library

If you would like to start a Friends of the Library Group, please let us know. A Friends group would be dedicated to helping the Library further its mission. It would help with the Annual Book Sales and raise money to support the Summer Reading Program and other events, and purchases for the Library.

Interlibrary Loan

If you are looking for a book that you are unable to find in the library you may request that we borrow it from another library through Interlibrary Loan. ILLs usually take about one to two weeks to arrive.

Large Print Books

The library has a collection of large print books, both fiction and non-fiction.

Magazines

The library currently subscribes to more than 40 magazines, which include Click, Cricket and National Geographic for Kids in the children's room, and such varied titles in the adult room as Consumer Reports, Cooking Light, Cooks Illustrated, MAD, Glamour, This Old House, New Hampshire, Outside, Oprah, People, and the Keene Sentinel. Call the Library at 242.7743 for a full list.

Meeting Space

Meeting space is available for community organizations in the Ripley Meeting Room. Stop by the library to fill out the application form and get a copy of our building usage policy.

The library subscribes  The Keene Sentinel.

NHew Link

NHew Link is a free resource for all of our Library patrons provided by the New Hampshire State Library. Databases available at home include access for The Union Leader and other regional and national newspapers; full-text access to over 1,000 periodicals through EBSCO; health information; census and other information through HeritageQuest; and NoveList, a reader's advisory service. See the New Hampshire State Library information page on NHew Link for a full list, and contact the Library at 242.7743 or at troylibrary@verizon.net for the appropriate login and password. In the Library, you can access Ancestry Library, another valuable tool for genealogical research.

Reader's Advisory

The library staff is more than happy to help you find the next great thing to read. Aside from our staff of readers, we have a access to NoveList, an online reader's advisory service, to help you decide. Contact the Library for the login and password for NoveList.

Reference Services

The Library has reference materials including everything from dictionaries and encyclopedias to maps to telephone books to works on a variety of other subjects. The library also subscribes to an Internet database called NHew Link. Reference inquiries are accepted in person or by phone at 242.7743. Simple reference questions are also accepted via email.

Video and DVD Collection

A large collection of children's, feature, and special interest videos are available for check out for one week. All future purchases to be made on DVD.

Parents, please note that the Library does not monitor what your children check-out. They have access to our entire collection of books, audio-books and movies. To help families in making their DVD selections we have separated our G & PG DVDs into a family friendly “Family DVD” section. Children's videos are found downstairs in the Children's Area.  If you wish to limit what your child is allowed to check-out, please ask us about putting a note on your child’s record.

Photocopying: 10¢ per page, black & white only.

Faxing: local faxes 25¢ per page and long distance faxes $1 per page
