Kinder Morgan has stopped moving forward on the controversial pipeline project that would have cut from New York through New England.

Parent company Tennessee Gas Pipeline announced that they’ve have suspended the Northeast Energy Direct project due to a lack of support from prospective customers.

Kinder Morgan released a statement that said “inadequate capacity commitments from prospective customers,” was to blame for pulling the plug on the $3.3 billion project.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., has been one of the most vocal opponents of the project in the Granite State.

“I was the first statewide elected official to oppose the pipeline moving forward because of the many unanswered questions and concerns raised by New Hampshire residents who would have been affected by this project, so I am pleased by today’s announcement,” she said.

The project has been met by critics since the proposal was unveiled.

“Unfortunately, despite working for more than two years and expending substantial shareholder resources, TGP did not receive the additional commitments it expected,” the company said. “As a result, there are currently neither sufficient volumes, nor a reasonable expectation of securing them, to proceed with the project as it is currently configured.”
