TROY — Gidion Nadeau Sr. edged Russell Butler by nine votes Tuesday for a three-year term on the board of selectmen in Troy.

Nadeau received 135 votes and Butler garnered 126. Francis Fournier Jr. finished third with 60 votes.

A total of 334 out of 1,135 registered voters went to the polls, or 29 percent.

Three other positions were also contested, although none were as close as the selectmen’s race.

Gary H. Sheldon defeated Michael J. Walsh for a two-year moderator’s term, 209-101; Marcia L. Nadeau defeated Cynthia N. Satas for a one-year term as welfare administrator, 203-118; and Carrie “Judy” Mentzer beat Julaine Rogers for a six-year term as supervisor of the checklist, 118-109.

Voters also altered the zoning ordinance for yard sales, eliminating the need for a permit by selectmen. The amendment also requires that any signs associated with a yard sale be removed within two days after the sale, and yard sale operators must ensure that sidewalks and roadways are not obstructed. The amendment passed 286-44.

Elected without opposition: Marcy Johnson, town clerk/tax collector, three years; Allan Bailey, budget committee, three years; Peter Marrotte, water/sewer commissioner, one year; Allan Bailey, library trustee, three years; Robert Luopa, planning board, three years; Kris Lepisto, cemetery trustee, three years; Scott Meader, second deputy fire chief, three years.

Troy will hold its town meeting tonight at 7 at the elementary school.
