TROY — Selectman Gideon L. Nadeau Sr. has died.

Selectman William T. “Tom” Matson said he learned of Nadeau’s passing this morning, and that he and Chairman Howard M. Sheats Jr. are shocked and deeply saddened by the news.

They send their best wishes and condolences to Nadeau’s family, Matson said.

Troy Town Hall has been closed for the remainder of the day out of respect for Nadeau, Matson said.

Nadeau, 66, was a longtime Troy resident. He was in his second, three-year term as a selectman, and served on many committees during the past 20 plus years, said James E. Dicey, a friend and Troy’s public works director.

Dicey said Nadeau had a heart attack Saturday evening, and died at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon early this morning.

“Gideon had a heart of gold,” Dicey said. “He was set in his ways, and sometimes we’d battle, but when it came right down to it, he’d do anything for anybody.”
